Vintage Curta Mechanical Calculator Type I Ser.#46677 Semiprime 1961 in near mint condition with metal canister and box. This one is a near mint beauty. It even feels great in hand, an exquisite machine, like a fine camera, or watch, or a gun. It appears to have been well cared for, with respect for this fine instrument. The Curta is important in the history of the development of the computer, and has been called the ‘first pocket calculator’. The original storage canister has some... scuffs and scratches in the paint from use. The box does not have a matching serial number. The research scientist who owned this shared a lab with his research partner, who also had one. They must have gotten switched at some point. I imagine that serial numbers were not important to them. If you track down the other one, you will likely find the original box. This box is worn, with tape reinforcements, and a hand lettered masking tape label on one end. Please look at the photos carefully. There are some white streaks on the rows of knurling in the photos that look like wear, but they are simply highlights from the lighting. Condition is Used.
