P A R K E RV.P.in Jet BlackGold Filled caps Made in U.S.A., c. 1960s DescriptionThis auction is for a PARKER VP pen made in the 1960s. This is the first-generation pen, designed byKenneth Parker and Don Doman as an ergonomic model, with adjustable nib thatwould fit anyone’s hand. This idea was based on a nib that could be rotated tofit the user’s wr...iting angle and special, profiled grip made it super-easy towrite with the VP. The triangular cross-section of the grip was correspondingto the user setting for the nib angle, so that when the user had the nib set inthe desired way relative to the grip, the writing angle was exactly the sameevery time. In addition, Parker developed a new‘clean-filling’ system for the pen and the pen was filled from the bottle usinga removable converter. These converters were very fragile and pens with extantconverter are very uncommon. Pen’s conditionVery good (inked) condition, nice glossy surface, trim in very good condition, imprints fully readable -please see photos. Filling system fully functional- the pen’s ready to fill and write.Original Clean-Fill transparentLucite filler is intact.Pencil fully functional, appears tonever have been used.Apologies for fingerprints to the caps and a bit of ink on the nib (I dip tested it to check the nib). Box has a bit of wear from storage but still looks pretty good as pictured. ImprintCap: PARKER VP – Made in U.S.A., [Parker ‘halo’ logo] Filling systemAerometric filler. To fill, unscrewthe barrel, immerse the nib and the edge of the nib section in the ink bottleand press the filler bar 4-5 times. Wipe the nib section with softtissue/tissue paper and replace the section in the barrel - the pen’s ready towrite – I would not recommend removing the filler. Nib.Medium, firm nib – Later Parkers weredesigned to be everyday writers and most of them have firm nibs (although flexnibs were also an option but not very common). A smooth writer.
