Corona No. 3 Folding Typewriter & Case - 1922 - Beautifully - VIDEO

The typewriter being offered here is a Corona No. 3, serial 481590, placing its date of manufacture in 1922, according to typewriterdatabase.com. The serial number is stamped on the frame and scratched into the carriage (as it always is on these). I have seen lots of Corona No. 3s (and I... have two), but this machine is not like the rest. You can actually type on it, and the output looks excellent. That sounds silly, but the reality is that most of the hundreds of thousands of No. 3s were carried around for years, and they are fairly sensitive to mishandling. As a result, very few No. 3s work well, if they even work at all. But this one is fully operational, and a good typist can fly on it.
Note in the pictures: 1) a bit of color mixing when typing in red (caused by typebars bouncing off the hard platen and striking it again, just as the ribbon starts to head back down), and 2) a poor impression for the dollar symbol ($) due to the typehead being misaligned beyond repair. See the typing sample.
All functions work: single- and double-line spacing, margins, the bell, line lock, margin release, backspace, etc. There are no binds. Type alignment looks excellent for a No. 3 (except for the dollar sign). As I said above, it types magnificently. Look closely at the typing sample, but the only way to see how any typewriter actually operates is to watch it in use. So, again, watch the video if operation interests you.
I replaced the hardened rubber feet with new reproduction feet, and leveled the typewriter. The folding arms are adjusted to be quite snug. This is intentional, since, without the snug fit, everything wobbles around and the typing quality suffers severely. The machine has been (mostly) disassembled and cleaned, and oiled according to the original oiling instructions. The ribbon in the pictures is a BACO nylon ribbon, and it’s obviously been used (by me!), but I will thread on a fresh one prior to shipping.
The case is in so-so shape. Most people just put the case in the closet, but do note that it is missing half the locking mechanism, so it won’t stay shut on its own. Additionally, the hinged flap on the case is missing its outer fabric cover. The case includes what is presumably the original brush. I will provide a copy of a scanned user manual.
