The HonorableBainbridge Colby- (Woodrow Wilsons last Secretary of State and MarkTwains lawyer, as well as the man who ratified the 19th amendmentwhich gave woman the right to vote !!!, I have seen on the net thatMr. Colbys autograph alone has sold for between $10.00 and $99.00.And since carbon relies of the era did not come with signatures Ihave decided to add a check and signature so as to add a directprovenance to your acquisition. . He was a gentleman who helped shapethe U.S. Political foreign affairs during the 1920's - 1940's. I grewup in his hometown and the caretaker for the family estate calledLittle Brook Farm, at Sunset Bay, near Bemus Point. The Colby familyfarms caretaker after Mr. Colby’s death in 1950 and Mrs. Colby’sdeath in 1963 was my Sunday school teacher (Mr Sydney Taylor) in theMaple Springs Interdenominational church from when I moved there in1964 until his death in 1967. Us kids would walk Mr. Taylor homeseveral miles each Sunday after church through the beautiful woodsthat later became Long State Park after Mr. Taylor passed away and wewould help him in his duties of cleaning up the property and myfather would haul the truckloads of junk we piled up every few weeksto the Ellery Center Dump which is when I kept a couple small boxesof the stuff and carried around until I began to research it thispast two years. I just kick myself now realizing that we must havethrown away several tons of paperwork and old books that were mostprobably filled with original mark Twain items and other significantwords of men and woman’s gifts, books, manuscripts that today wouldbe a treasure of Americana history. I just thank God that Mr. Taylortold me to save the little bit.
