Excellent quality genuine 277 year old sterling silver example, (definitely not a modern re-production), a superb very early pepper pot in a bulbous baluster shape in its original plain form, resting on a flared circular pedestal base and complete with its original tight fitting pierced silver pull-off lid. Beautiful clear hallmarks and it weighs a heavy 63 grams. No engraved inscriptions, has a very faint monogram that has worn away/erased and is no longer readable. Ready to be used and a very nice item.Measurements Measures approx. 3.45 inches (88mm) in height x 1.75 inches (44mm) in diameter. Date English antique 18th Century George II solid sterling silver,  with a full set of silver hallmarks for London 1742 (date letter "g"). Superb clear struck marks, includes an early lion gardent silver stamp and the crowned leopards head. Easily pre-dates silver duty so no duty mark.Maker Silversmiths initials "R.G" for the London silver-maker Richard Gosling - (1739 -1757). 100% guaranteed genuine. Condition Lovely condition and ready to be used. No repairs and no nasty knocks or dents, just a few minor little bruises, really nothing much at all and a lovely genuine antique example and nice to find one in its original state and without later embossed decoration. The silver pull-off lid is almost definitely original and is a good tight fit and the pierced decoration is undamaged. Beautiful early silver pepper and a fine early year date.
