Extremely Rare, Western " PERUVIAN / BITTERS " Clear Flint Glass
Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:15281380 | Country/Region of Manufacture: United States |
Color: Clear |
Here's a mega rare Western bitters many collectors have never seen. Embossing reads: "PERUVIAN / BITTERS" on the front panel. Reverse has a fancy monogram embossed "W & C" within a shield. Hand blown into a two part mould in what... looks like clear flint glass, circa 1880s. Size is 9" tall x 3" wide. Has a tooled lip and smooth concave base. This bottle is nearly twice the weight of it's commonly seen amber counterpart. Blown by the "San Francisco & Pacific Glass Works" circa late 1870s. We note a tiny hard to see 1/8" flash on an edge but nothing else. Lightly cleaned inside & out and displays great. We believe the clear variants are among the oldest and likely discontinued do to the extra weight & expense of producing flint glass. Some of the clear variants have a de-bossed monogram on the reverse, some embossed. I can personally account for seeing only a couple with the embossed monogram and maybe 4 or so of the de-bossed clear bottles.
