This is a stunning antique Victorian purse. It is fully hallmarked sterling silver with an enamel picture on the front. The picture shows a bird, a finch perhaps, perching on a branch of a tree waiting, wings stretched for a dragonfly to catch. The purse has full English hallmarks on the back and partial on the front. These match, showing all is original. Hallmarks show H&A for silversmiths Horton & Allday, Queen's Head, Lion Passant for sterling, Anchor for... Birmingham and date letter l for 1885. Closed the purse measures 6 cm x 4.5 cm x 1.5 cm. The silver is in very good condition. There are no splits or repairs to the silver. The front is free of any dents or dings. The back has some. The enamel picture is in very good if not excellent condition. The only loss of enamel I can see is a small bit off the tail. I have taken close up photos which will show all the enamel areas. The silk interior of the purse could do with some attention, again I have photographed this. This is a rare piece of Victorian silver and a real quality item.
