A very large and fine, late 19th century Chinese export silver
dragon in streaming flames tea kettle, on matching
hallmarked stand, retaining the original burner.
From the rarely observed work shop of Cheong Shin.
The dragon kettle in tapering oval form.
Beautifully hand carved four claw Chinese dragon covers
the entire surfac...e. Carved in extremely high relief
from surface.
Set amidst streaming flames., with long
tendrils flaring backward.
The dragon's mouth is opened unusually wide, with the
upper furry "lip" carved outward at an angle
from the surface, most unusual design feature.
Hinged cover retains the original gnarled bamboo finial
and original hand cut fastener below. set above both applied and
engraved bamboo displays.
Overhead swing handle and spout in notched bamboo form.
Kettle atop matching, fully hallmarked crossed bamboo
shoot stand, with center ring supporting the
well placed burner with hinged dome cover.
The dragon set never monogrammed.
This fine c1890 Chinese export silver dragon tea kettle onmatching stand is 12 inches tall
and the complete set weighs a bit over 42 standard ounces.
Hallmarked under kettle base and undereach leg of the matching stand.
In very fine condition.
Rich silver patina throughout. Retains original detail.
