Here's a beautiful mahogany 4 x 6 tailboard camera manufactured in the 1880's by Rochester Optical. The camera comes with its original Rochester Optical carrying case, its original Rochester Optical 4 1/2" x 6 1/2" glass plate holder, its original Rochester Optical lens and leather lens cover, its original Rochester Optical wood tripod (extends up to 59") and a vintage dark cloth.
As you can see in the photographs, the camera is exceptionally clean. It's also entirely original, including its original ground glass focusing plate. The wood body (French polished Spanish mahogany) retains its original finish (still smooth to the touch and gorgeous to behold), and the bellows are still supple and appear to be light tight. Lens is clear and throws a crisp image against the focusing plate. Fittings are original and clean, and the patina on all the metal parts is excellent. No fittings are missing, and no fittings are incorrect. The camera folds up neatly and looks beautiful from any angle.
The case is in excellent condition, too. No damage, tight corner joints, original carrying handle. It's blind-stamped Rochester Optical Co. and is the correct size for the camera and plate holder that it houses. Tripod is in nice shape, with its original finish still intact and no damaged or splintered wood. It too is blind-stamped Rochester Optical.
A really nice early camera outfit. And the camera looks great on the tripod, as you can see.
