This model is nicknamed the 'Big Strad' due to its elegant design and unique grill bars resembling the famous Stradivarius violin. The radio features a stunning Ingraham made American ...Walnut cabinet, attractive dial, push button tuning, great Art Deco appeal and outstanding performance.Cabinet: The Ingraham made American Walnut cabinet is an absolute stunner. Gorgeous wood grain flows throughout the entire set. It's elegant design and attractive curves reminds you that the Ingaham cabinet company was second to none when it came to cabinet design. The unique grill, boasting 'Stradivarius' grill bars, not only looks great but allows for optimal sound from the speaker. Jet black trim and the Emerson 'G' clef logo finish this beauty off with the upmost elegance and style. Dial & Knobs: The brown and gold dial is quite attractive. All letters and numbers on the dial are legible and show very little signs of wear. It is illuminated by a top mounted dial dial lamp for easy dim or dark room tuning. All three knobs are in perfect shape and control on/off & volume, band switch and tuning. The set also features 4 push buttons for pre- set tuning that would need to be set to your local stations if you intend on using.Chassis: All tubes in the 6 tube (including ballast tube) chassis were testedwith any weak tubes being replaced. All caps, filters, and resistors werechecked and replaced as needed. All brittle or bare wiring was replaced orre-insulated. The chassis has been cleaned, lubed, and re-aligned for optimalperformance. Using the included copper line antenna the radio plays exceptionally well. I'm able to pick up many stations across the AM broadcast band. The radio provides deep rich tone and room filling volume. I was also able to pick up a few short wave stations, especially at night.
The Cabinet’s Finish and Restoration Process: Our Radio cabinetsundergo a vigorous restoration process. Our goal is to maintain the naturalbeauty of the wood and grain, while providing a deep luster and shine. Weachieve this by removing all the old and worn lacquers and stains. We then sandthe cabinet with fine grit pads down to the original bare wood. Nicks, chips, andblemishes are filled and/or blended. Any loose veneer is re-secured. We makesure any filler applied or repairs made are blended nicely and do not detractfrom the beauty of the set unless otherwise noted. New stains and sealers areapplied by hand. We continue by using many coats of Mohawk brand lacquers andtoners applied in the same manner as when the radio was originally finished inthe factory. We use a nitrocellulose piano lacquer which is applied through aprofessional HVLP turbine spray system in a climate controlled room.Nitrocellulose lacquer is very thin. We also apply very thin coats. This allowsthe lacquer to seep into the grain and not cover it up. A fine grit wet sandingfollows every third coat along with a polishing process and ending with an Ozglaze rub. Many hours of work are put into the radios, but as you can see, thefinal outcome is a beautiful, natural looking cabinet with gorgeous luster&shine. Our radios are a great piece of history that come to you ready toproudly display, as well as listen to, in any room of the home or office. It's reception, sound and performance should not be expected to compare to a modern radio with today's technology. Playing capability is accurately described based on my location, surroundings and hooked up to a 12’ copper line antenna. The antenna will be included with the sale but I cannot guarantee reception quality in your area. It may differ (better or worse) depending on your location, surroundings, distance from AM broadcasts in your vicinity and interference. However, if at any time these parts would happen to fail, we will assist in repairing or replacing the defective part at minimal cost. Finally, in very rare instances, if there is shipping damage a USPS insurance claim request must be made to me from the buyer immediately upon receipt of the radio. A USPS inspection of the radio, boxes, and all packing materials is required.
