soft tips about 10K karat gold :
Karats
A karat is a measurement of the fineness of gold. Pure gold is called 24 karat (24K). Pure gold is very soft and easily damaged, however, so other metals, such as nickel and silver, almost alway...s are mixed with gold to make it more durable. The metals other than gold in an alloy are called "base metals."
Karat Measurement
Because gold is a soft metal, it is alloyed with other metals to improve its durability and strength. When it is alloyed with other metals, the karat measurement is used to indicate the amount of gold present. Twenty-four karat is pure gold, and it is alloyed down to 10 karats. Items less pure than this are sometimes called gold-filled, gold plated or gold washed.
Demand for 10-karat Gold
Ten-karat gold is very popular for jewelry because it retains gold's distinctive yellow color at little expense. Ten-karat gold contains 41.7 percent gold, with the remaining material composed of other metals, such as nickel. This results in a very durable piece of jewelry (as the other metals are harder), with a subtler gold hue than higher purities.
Grades
Common grades of gold in jewelry are 18K, 14K and 10K. The U.S. Federal Trade Commission has ruled that 10K is the lowest grade of gold that can be sold as such in the U.S. Ten-karat gold jewelry generally is considerably less expensive than its 18K or 14K counterparts, and will resist regular wear and tear.
Base Metals
It is important to learn, if you can, which base metals are in the alloy of the 10K jewelry you're considering buying. Many people can have allergic reactions to base metals, particularly to nickel. Earrings for pierced ears that contain nickel, for instance, can cause serious allergic reactions and infections of the ear lobe.
Gold Plate
The term "10K gold" refers to a mixture of gold and other metals. The term "10K gold plate, " on the other hand, refers to a layer of that grade of gold that is bonded to the outside of jewelry made from a different metal. Gold-plated jewelry often has a bright gold color, but sooner or later, the gold plate will wear off.
Vermeil
Recently, jewelry made from vermeil has enjoyed a surge of popularity. Vermeil is sterling silver, which is 92.5 percent pure silver, overlaid with gold plating. French jewelry makers invented the process in the 1700s and the product was instantly popular. Again, the minimum fineness of the gold used in vermeil can be no lower than 10K in the U.S.
Shopping for Gold
it does not require that gold jewelry carry a stamp, or imprint, delineating its karat grade, but reputable jewelry makers stamp their products anyway. The stamp will be tiny and in an inconspicuous place, so you may have to search for it, but it's well worth the effort to have that assurance. If you can't find a stamp, ask the vendor to provide you documentation of the grade of gold in the merchandise.

Is 10K Gold Better Than 14K Gold?
Many jewelry buyers often cannot decide between 10K and 14K gold. And some people say that 10-karat gold is actually the better choice. Let’s see if that is really true.
How Are 10K and 14K Different?
The karat number of your jewelry indicates what proportion of it is made up of gold. Thus, the most fundamental difference between 10-karat and 14-karat gold is in the amount of gold content.

10K gold contains 10 parts pure gold and 14 parts other metals, such as copper, zinc, silver, tin, etc.
14K gold contains more of the precious metal – 14 parts of the alloy is gold and 10 parts consists of non-gold metals.
In terms of percentage, 10 karats corresponds to 41.7% gold content, while 14 karats is equivalent to 58.3% pure gold.
Looking at these numbers, it is interesting to note that less than half of the material in 10K jewelry is actually gold, whereas almost 60% of the alloy in a 14K piece is gold.
How Is 10K Gold Better Than 14K Gold?
It might seem that 14-karat gold is better just because it is purer than 10K gold, but the latter actually has some advantages over the former. Let’s see what they are:
10-Karat Gold Is Cheaper
10K gold is cheaper than 14K gold – per gram. This is a result of the lower purity of 10K gold, which contains less of the precious (and expensive) metal.
The price of 10K gold is perhaps its biggest selling point. Although most people who prefer 10-karat jewelry do so mainly because it’s cheap, it has another important advantage – greater hardness and durability.
10-Karat Gold Is Harder
Since 10K gold contains less pure gold and more other metals, the resulting alloy ends up being harder than 14K gold.
Gold is a very soft metal, and the more of it is in a piece of jewelry, the softer the item is. As a result, higher-karat gold is easier to scratch and wear out compared to lower-karat pieces.
So, since 10K gold is harder, jewelry made with it is more durable and less prone to bending than 14K gold
