This is a choice slab cut from the end of an Argentina petrified log that we cut years ago. I found the heel while organizing my shop (a constant challenge) and was really pleased to have the chance to work up one last piece from this fine fossil log. This incredible, gem like log succeeded in preserving the wood structure in far more detail than most Argentina rounds and the high contrast colors are easy on the eye too! ... It took an amazing polish which really helps show off the high contrast bluish tinted black and what color foundation of this amazing specimen. This slab is cut from the end of the log, rough and naturally wind polished on the back and the patina tinted sides with a truly captivating, antiquated preservation on the exterior that rivals even that beautiful cut and polished face!This is one of the most beautiful, complete petrified wood rounds from one of the most exotic new locations I've seen in quite a while. This very fine grade of petrified wood came from the southern tip of South America in Argentina! It is what remains of an ancient forest that thrived many millions of years ago. This round comes from one of the newest logs we've gotten from that part of the world. The cell structure is very visible in the lighter colored zones and it's easy to classify as a conifer of some sort (no resin canals). There are more subtle shades of blue, gray and black in the dark zones than my camera can do justice with. The color pattern is pretty close to what we get in the Deschutes River Canyon here in Oregon. It is much more striking in real life than my camera can capture. This top quality round is not only 100% there, rind and all, but it has some of the most stunning growth ring detail you'll ever see in petrified wood. If the timeless mystery of this piece isn't enough for you, then I'm certain the simple, natural, gemmy beauty of it will be. The high contrast colors the entire piece is completely preserved in are a very high grade of agate. The high agate content allows this stone to be polished to a liquid perfect, lustrous finish that only the best grades of fossil wood can achieve. A nice piece to broaden your own collection with and based on what I've learned from this deposit now it will surely be a uniquely colored specimen! This round is is a perfect slice taken from the center of a very solid log. It's really a nice piece, but what else would you expect from a business named "Sticks-in-Stones"?!
