THE SAME EMPIRE BUT A NEW EXHIBITIONA poster stamp for the 1925 British Empire Exhibition, held between May and October 1925. The event, which was part-funded by the UK government and opened by King Edward V, sought to promote trade by showcasing raw materials, manufactured goods, arts and crafts and artefacts from each of the Dominions, the Indian Empire and Britain’s African and Caribbean Colonies. The project involved considerable infrastructure development around the Wembley... Park site, leading to the building of a new train station and the widening of approach roads from Central London. However, the event failed to capture the nation's interest and closed having made losses of £1.5 million.
