George Morton Prout 1913-2016 Listed Art Original Painting Connie Mack Baseball art for the Connie Mack portion of a 1972 religious calendar he did for Brown & Bigelow. I have a couple different paintings from this calendar, this is one of two.
This one is just exceptional! Prout's energy and skill are really unsurpassed in this area! He continued to improve through his entire life. Very rich colors on this, I've having a hard time capturing it with my camera. His earth col...ors are particularly strong.

For your consideration, we are offering an exceptional and completely original religious oil painting by George Prout. This was created for either a preliminary or final painting for a religious calendar for Brown & Bigelow publishers in St. Paul, Minnesota in the1970's.

Prout was a commissioned Biblical artist for the Brown and Bigelow Calendar Company, St. Paul, Minnesota. George Prout is an unusual artist who paints unusual pictures. He specialized in religious paintings, and had done many beautiful Catholic and Protestant calendars. Before he paints he must spend several weeks reading researching his subject. Every minute detail in his pictures, every expression can be painted only after it has been checked and rechecked with historical, biblical and ecclesiastical facts. Once he has his picture ideas in mind and the settings for each, he consults with Brown and Bigelow to edit, revise and finally choose those that best suit the calendar requirements. Mr. Prout is a man who feels very deeply the inspirational messages which he portrays in his religious paintings. Biography George Morton Prout FAMILY AND CHILDHOOD BACKGROUND Born on September 1st, 1913 in St. Francisville, Illinois, a small river town on the west bank of the Wabash River, George Morton Prout was the son of John Prout and Edna Bullington Prout, straight-laced, religious Protestant parents with Midwestern prairie pioneer roots, restlessly moving during his youth from southern Illinois to North Dakota, then to Alabama, then to Florida, then to Indiana, where they finally settled. Both of George’s parents were socially conservative but expressed themselves artistically—his father enjoying writing, calligraphy, drawing, and singing, and his mother studying music, playing piano, and presenting oral book reviews in the community.Questions welcome.
