This is an original, vintage J. D. McCarthy B&W postcard photo of Hall of Famer and all-time great Wayne Gretzky of the Edmonton Oilers. He is posed standing with his stick on the ice whil;e looking direrctly into the camera. The reverse has McCarthys address printed across the middle of th card. Years ago, I regularly dealt with JD, buying several lots of his postcards and other pictures annually. They were mostly his choice depending on what he had ava...ilable at any point. In one lot, he sent a small quantity of these Gretzkys. I had them stored away for years and unpacked them in 2017. I'd lost touch of their value and the ones I listed for sale sold in a half hour. I put another lot up and it sold quickly as did a third. One of those buyers complained to Ebay that the three he received were bogus. I spoke to an Ebay rep and said that if he would submit one for grading we could determine their authenticity and that person agreed. Someone else at Ebay didn't and they took money from my account to refund his payment plus return postage. For various reasons their handling of my Paypal account caused me a myriad of problems. Eventually, I picked out one which appeared to me to be the best of the three and had a friend get it graded for me. First and only thing I've ever had graded in 73 yrears of collecting. Long story short, , it graded SGC 82 and sold on Ebay for $172.00. So, if the nitwit who returned the three I sold him causing me so many problems sees this, “Nice Move”. This afternoon, I pulled a second one from the envelope he returned. I'm far from a grading expert but this appears to me to be of equal quality to the graded one I sold and I see nothing that merits special mention in regard to its condition.
