The legendary British Spitfire wasn't built for comfort, she was built for speed, and her cold cockpit led many RAF pilots to wear the classic 1942 pattern Irvin sheepskin leather flight jacket. The elegant Irvin was also donned on occasion by US Army Air Forces pilots flying out of air bases in England. This British RAF WW2 SPITFIRE PILOT '42 PATTERN IRVIN SHEEPSKIN LEATHER FLIGHT JACKET is in good condition, with two significant tears in the top left shoulder, making the jacket s...uitable for a STATIC DISPLAY ONLY, a smaller tear in the back right shoulder, some surface cracking at the front left underarm, some scattered patina to the underarm grommets and the front waist belt buckle, some overall drying, stiffening, and crazing, and with some overall fragility and age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the jacket is in fine shape, with no other damage to the tough "grained" brown sheepskin leather construction. Most interestingly, it boasts a thick, warm "golden" brown sheepskin fleece collar and interior, sports a fully functional "LIGHTNING" metal front zipper with a brown leather pull, and features the classic 1942 pattern multi-piece body and sleeve panels. It's a Size 4 (Height 5'8" to 5'9", Chest 36" to 38", Waist 32" to 34"), bears the original "/|\ STORES REF. 22c/320 / CONTRACT 10422 / JACKET" nomenclature tag at the inside neck, and carries a leather throat strap with dual metal "D" ring closure buckles, "King's crown" and "A.M" stamped metal zippered cuffs with brown leather pulls, an integral leather half waist belt with a metal closure buckle, a small metal chain hanger at the inside neck, and metal ventilation grommets at the underarms.
