This superb art decosilver enamel butterfly brooch is fully hallmarked and signed TLM.Thomas L Mott established his company in 1875 and it wasstill in business as late as the 1970’s. Particularly noted for his wonderfulbutterfly wing jewellery in the 1920’s, Thomas Mott also made lovely silver enamel jewellery.Butterflies by TLMare quite rare so when I saw this fine specimen I snapped it up. It was made in1919.The butterflymeasures 6cms (2 and 3/8”) across the wingspan so is larg...e. It weighs 19.2 grams.The wings areenamelled in a variety of colours -vibrant turquoise, pearly white, rich red , golden yellow with black accents and wing tips. The body is enamelled in black.The effect is very striking and impressive.On the back is asolid old style c clip and pin. Down the centre are full English hallmarks:the anchor for the Birmingham assay office, the lion passant for sterlingsilver and the date letter U for 1921. Also present is the maker’s mark TLM.It is in excellent conditionfor a butterfly which is exactly 100 years old. All the enamel is intact.Don’t miss addingthis magnificent butterfly to your collection! I doubt you will easily findanother like it. It comes to you tissue wrapped in a gift box.
