I have been selling collectible estate/costume jewelry for 30 years and have only owned 2 Night to Day pins - both were costume pieces. This c.1910 18k yellow gold, platinum and mine-cut diamond horse-head stickpin is a fine and rare Night to Day piece - intended to be worn on the plain side during the day, and turned around and worn on the diamond side at night. This piece measures 2 1/8" in length, with the horse head measuring 9/16" x 9/16". I test...ed every part of this pin myself, then brought it to my jeweler, who had the same results. The pin stem is 14k, the plain side has a nicely detailed 18k horse head, the fancy side is platinum with 44 mine-cut diamonds set into it. The horses' eye was not tested but appears to be a ruby. Both sides of the head are joined - it is a most unusual piece. There are several small marks running down the pin stem near the top - I count 6 of them - could be the remains of a makers' hallmark. I was hoping to read Tiffany, but they are totally undecipherable. Condition is Excellent!
