" ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL " MARKED U. S. CAVLARY SPUR - INDIAN WAR PERIOD
Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:158890 |
This is a gutterback style spur mimics some of the earlier pattern 1858 U.S. spurs. "R.I.A. 1903" is stamped near the strap provi...sion on this spur which of course, is the acronym for Rock Island Arsenal. On the other strap provision is stamped "12" and below it is a numeral "9". I'm not sure but it may be a designation for the 12th Cavalry; but who knows? I'm sure the markings are associated with some type of military unit.
Also included is a nice .54 caliber Sharps Carbine bullet dug in Mexico, a brass accoutrement hanger and a 1851 Goodyear rubber military button from Fort Verde in Arizona.
I'm really digging these Indian War period relics and I can assure you that this is one nice late spur. I think if you check out the pictures then you will agree.
