Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome . You are looking at a somewhat rare RCA model Type KN-1A Pressure microphone first produced in the 1950's and was a modern design looking like no other mics being manufactured at that time or since. It comes with the original (but shortened) cable shown. This KN-1A model utilized a very unique moving element that looked similar to the ribbon mics of the day. There is a single straight wire embe...dded into a molded diaphragm. A strong magnet generates a small voltage of the same wave form as the sound acting on the diaphragm. I have only seen this element in RCA microphones but they work very well and this mic still sounds great even 70 years later. it has been tested and has a strong output. This particular mic was made for paging and public address purposes abut it would make a great "general broadcasting" mic as well. It has more of a medium impedance sound despite being low impedance. You'll notice right away that this mic has beautiful original two tone paint. This is one of the nicer examples I have ever seen and the paint shows just lite wear with a few scuff marks. The front metal grill has a beautiful luster and shows just one tiny ding plus some scuff marks. The head on this mic swivels forward and backwards according to the users needs. The RCA "meatball" logos are still present on this mic. You'll notice that this model has a unique hinged door that hides the cable within. The hinge swings out allowing you to connect or disconnect the cable and the wire exits out the bottom of the mic. You'll be able to screw this mic onto any American desk or floor stand without issue as it has the universal 5/8 X 27 thread. The cable is older and has the period XLR connector which you'll need for this mic. It's wired according to the unique RCA specs and the connector itself is shorter allowing you to use it in the mic. The modern XLR connectors are too long to be used in this mic. The cable is soft, pliable and only 1 foot in length. Simply attach any longer XLR cable of choice to the one that exists and you are in business. This mic has a bit of weight to her coming in at just about 2 pounds. Built like a tank! This would make an excellent display piece to put on the shelf, coffee table or just about anywhere. Don't be afraid to hook her up for any live performance either. Please let the detailed pics be your guide. Total height of this mic is appx 10 inches. An easy 7 on a scale of 1 - 10 in the cosmetic department.
The mic will screw onto any desk or floor stand with it's universal threading.
