Traute Sänger, c.1968
Sängerform, GermanyNB: The wooden poster hanger is not included with the sale and is for our display only. However, they are widely available on eBay, Amazon, Etsy, etc.A scarce vintage hand screen-printed pop art fabric wall-panel of a stylised dove surrounded by flowers in a style reminiscent of Bill Graham's iconic mindbending band posters for the Fillmore Auditorium. It was created by award-winning German painter, graphic artist, fabri...c designer and jeweler, Traute Sänger (1928-2017), for her own company, Sängerform, in the late 1960s.
Sänger's imagery often channels the abstracted colours and bold forms of post-war advertising graphics and the nostalgic naïveté of children's book illustration. The fine balance between the two and the bang-on-trend appeal of bold maximalist prints ensure they could suit children's rooms and more grown-up spaces equally.
Each screenprint is signed 'Sänger'.
These are NOS (New Old Stock) from the artist's estate sale. We acquired a number of the original hand-drawn drafts for similar designs, dated 1968.
Each hanging has been hand-printed onto thick cotton panels with raw edges. They are hand-washable at 30° Centigrade.
The fabric panels have small brass eyelets sewn to the corners, for an alternative means of display.
This is one of many different designs we have stocked - which range from friendly crocodiles to bold flowers to abstract patterns. Please see our other listings for different designs and colour combinations.
