Vintage Visalia Stock & Saddle Co. Sterling Silver Concho Martingale. Vintage tack from this company is hard to find. This showy running martingale breast collar was made in the early 1900’s by the Visalia Stock & Saddle Co. The Sterling silver concho is 2” diameter and has not been polished in the last 50 years. The Visalia S&S Company SF (San Francisco) stamp is on the neck and girth strap (see photos). This piece has a functional buckle on the neck strap, an adjustin...g buckle on the girth strap with retainers, and a handmade snap on the girth strap. It is missing the ring straps for the reins. This is an antique piece, the leather is old and dry but it is in good condition and would need to be oiled up to bring the leather back to life, then it would serve for light use. This is a unique handmade piece of leatherwork from a hallmark company famous for the saddles and tack they crafted for vaqueros and herdsmen of the open range of California. This martingale was old when I got it, a gift from Mildred Dirion when I worked on her ranch in Oregon in the early 70’s. She was one of the first woman bronc riders to be featured in Western Horseman Magazine when she lived in Walnut Creek CA.
