Very good condition original WWI ImperialGerman Model 1873 cavalry/artillery saber that is maker marked “ERNST BUSCHSOLINGEN” on the left ricasso behind the langet and dated 1915 on the spine.Sword has a cancelled unit marking on top of the guard-“8.E.” for the 8thRailway Regiment. Back of guard has another cancelled unit marking. Sword wasreissued to the Weimar Republic after the war and has the 1920 “double date” onthe right side of the guard. Left side of guard h...as a Weimar era unit marking-“1./N.3.16.”, probably for the 3rd Signals Unit, Company 1, Weapon 16. 30” bladehas beautiful original bright finish and no nicks or dings. Still has originalleather washer at the base. Remaining metal finish is postwar German arsenalreblue showing some wear to brown and gray. Plastic grip has a good tight fitand no damage. Fitted in correct original steel scabbard that has a matchingunit marking to the Weimar era one on the sword, near the throat. Also has amatching Railway Regiment unit marking on the drag. Scabbard has nice originalblue metal finish showing a little normal wear and a little pitting, and a fewdents. An interesting German sword that will make a fine addition to acollection.
