This is a fantastic very impressive early antique English original black and gold chinoiserie 8 day bell striking and repeating london longcase clock with all the features you would like to see from a top quality london grandfather clock. This is a C1725 longcase clock by Samual Smith of Richmond (London) all in full working order and all original with dial, movement and case all belonging to each other. Samual smith is a very well recorded maker and is known for top quality clocks around 1725. With a hand written paper note inside the door from a librarian
The case has a pagoda top design to the sliding removable hood with a hinged glazed door which protects the original brass and silver dial with glass sides and finished by 2 original brass finials to top. The case has its original locking lever lock for the hood which locks the hood to the case and locks the hood door from opening The case also has a stunning patina and colour to the raised chinoiserie which can only be acquired through age with its original working lock and key to trunk door The base has the usual London double plinth base The black and gold chinoiserie case has a superb beautiful patina and colour to it which can only be acquired through age and looks very good as i am sure you can see from the pictures. All the chinoiserie decoration looks to be original with only minor age discrepencies what you would expect to see and all adds to its authenticity and history The case looks stunning displayed anywhere
The clock benefits from its original brass and silvered dial with engraved roman numerals to the silvered chapter ring. The arch has the makers boss and is engraved by the maker Sam Smith of Richmond (London), the centre has engraved subsidary seconds dial and an engraved border to the calendar frame with original early pierced brass spandrels to the corners and arch. The dial is in great condition for age
The clock benefits from its original high quality brass 8 day bell striking 5 pillar construction movement with anchor escapement, the movement is of 8 day duration driven by its 2 lead weights and brass pendulum, the movement is in full working order keeping time and striking as it should as you can see in the video above with a working calendar mechanism and a superb pull repeat function which when pulled repeats the current hours strike a rare feature to see One of the 5 pillars to the movement is missing. It doesnt affect the movement at all and i would guess that this was mislaid during a previous service somewhere. It is the central pillar so not needed anyway
The mechanism comes with a 6 months return to base warranty for extra peice of mind. All our clocks are tested for a minimum of 1 week before listing onto ebay and working condition is clearly stated above
No matter how well antique clocks have been serviced they will need final adjusting and setting into beat after transport and a professional person is advised and may be required in order to do this so please bear this in mind before bidding
If on the rare occasion you receive a clock that has a problem or does not work after initial set up and adjusting by a professional person then we reserve the right for you to return the mechanism for repair by myself
There will be no refunds if the mechanism needs repair. I reserve the right for the mechanism to be returned to me for repair
I offer a 6 months return to base warranty on all my mechanisms (unless stated not working in description)
In case of a problem after a professional has attempted to set the clock up you can return the mechanism back to me for repair
Please do not take the mechanism to a local clock maker/repairer as this will render the warranty void. All repairs needed to the mechanism will be carried out by myself and not by a 3rd party clock maker/repairer unless agreed by myself beforehand. please contact me in the first instance to arrange return of the mechanism for repair by myself
Shipping the mechanism back to me will be at the buyers cost and i will pay to get the mechanism back to you after repair
All repair costs will be met by myself for 6 months after purchase. If a mechanism is faulty after 6 months then i can offer a repair service for a discounted price but this cost will be met by the buyer if after 6 months of purchase
