An original and rare cabinet photograph by an unknown photographer, circa 1905, identified on reverse as Major Horatio Gates Sickel [1854-1918], the son of Civil War General H.G. Sickel.....He was a graduate of West Point in 1876, and appointed as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 7th Cavalry on July 28, 1876 after Little Big Horn, and went on to serve 27 years with the 7th Cavalry on the frontier. He was First Lieutenant of a Company in Troop E under Captain Charles Ilsley at the Battle... of Wounded Knee 1890, was promoted to Captain in 1896, and served in the Spanish American War. After 1903 he served with the 12th Cavalry in the Philippines and on the Mexican Border, and retired with the rank of Colonel in 1918, the same year he died.....Size 6" x 8", some chipping and bends on edges of mount not affecting the image, very good condition and a rare image of a career soldier.......Guaranteed original........$5.00 shipping........Over forty five years in business. 14 day return.
