This book shares the personal accounts of the author's twelve years among the I...ndians of the Plains from his personal diaries and manuscripts. Every page presents a different phase of Indian or frontier life and character! George Belden was born in Ohio, ran away from home at 13 years of age and lived for some time with the Indians in the West existing as a trapper, guide, hunter, soldier, and an adventurous White Chief. Upon learning the customs and traditions, he adopted his life to the ways of the Native American Indian. He later joined the U.S. Army, however, he could no longer stand the hardships of a soldier's life and the uncertainties of the service. He was dismissed from the armed forces on November 4, 1869. George Belden left his diaries and manuscripts with General James S. Brisbin. Published in 1871, this book is in GOOD CONDITION for its age and especially to be 149 YEARS OLD!!!
