Original Description:
Small early/mid 19th, probably Scottish, linen and wool work sampler by Agnes R Bowie. Though undated, the style of stitch work would indicate this piece dates to c.1835 or slightly earlier. Worked predominantly in red and green, this little sampler is completely charming with fine quality stitch work throughout. The linen is stitched with rows of alphabet letters, numbers and border patterns finishing with Agnes' name running across the bottom edge.The linen has overall discolouration... consistent with its age, and the colours of the thread are good with some small areas of stitch loss to the outer line border. The last photo is of the reverse of the sampler and indicates how the colours would have looked when Agnes first stitched it. Measures 5" x 12"
