Mid 19th century Scottish linen and wool work sampler by J.Carmichael aged 12. Though undated, the style of stitch work would indicate this piece dates to c.1850 or slightly earlier. The upper section of the linen is stitched with rows of alphabet letters and border patterns, whilst the middle section contains rows of family initials. The lower section of the linen contains two further rows of lettering with finishing with J.Carmichael's details and her place of residence - Govan - run...ning across the bottom edgeThe linen has overall discolouration consistent with its age, with some small faint stains, and the colours of the wool are good with some areas of stitch loss. The last photo is of the reverse of the sampler and indicates how the colours would have looked when it was first stitched. Measures 7 3/4" x 17" ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE ASK.
