Original Description:
Here is a very handsome pair of Civil War, Smith’s Patent private purchase, regulation Federal Army officer shoulderstraps sometimes referred to as shoulder boards. Straps are in extra finecondition with blue fields indicative of an infantry officer.  Strapsmeasure approximately 4 5/8” long x 1 7/8” wide and are convex. Both strapfields are in great original condition and made of a darker blue felt that hasfaded to a purplish hue.  Indicative ofthe earlier straps t...hat were made with different dies. The edge of one of theinner fields does show four small perforations, possibly from a rank device nowmissing most likely captain bars at one time.Surrounding each field is the rich andpleasing, Smith’s Patent, 1/2” wide, faux-embroidered double rowed brass metalborder.  Borders are well preserved and show some bending and verdigris . When viewed from the back, each strap bottom has an indigo blue or blackunderlayment folded over and sewn directly to the backing material.  It has several moth holes which have long agopassed.  Backing is tight and strong .  This pair of Civil Warcompany-grade shoulder straps are in great condition and would highlight anyCivil War insignia or rank collectionPlease see my other listed items.  I am selling the remainder of my collection of 550 + Civil War, Indian war, Mexican war and earlier items
