Antique Primitive Salt Glazed Stoneware " EARLY BIRD Crock O. L. & A. K. Ballard. Vt
Item History & Price
~ Cobalt Blue Bird Decoration ~
BURLINGTON, VT
1859 - 1867
Offered for your collection is this stunning blue bird stoneware crock made in c.1860 by Orrin and Alfred Ballard in Burlington, Vt. These brothers previously produced stoneware in both Gardner and Portland Me. But the marking in this crock, "O.L. & A.K. Ballard Burlington, Vt" date it to between 1859 / 1867- (right through the Civil War.) The crock itself... has the very desirable cobalt blue bird on a branch covered by a salt glaze. This example of their work is 11" tall and 8" wide with a stamped capacity of "2" gal. The tapered top crock is cylindrical with rounded shoulders, has applied lug handles and built up rim to support a lid. This crock has some chips and a small early chip repair on the back that does not distract from the beauty or rarity of the treasure. Ships double boxed and well packed. Fedex Shipping is included with this treasure.
