Magnificent large early 19thc elaborately oak carved panel. C.1840.Excellent attention to carved detail on this panel. Crest to the centre of the panel with the heads of two griffins. The griffins heads are thrown back and secured by a tie at the neck (they look rather like two birds poking their heads out of a nest). Flanking this crest are stunning large winged griffins. Both in a standing pose with acanthus leaves for tails. Their necks loop... before joining their body. Behind each of the large winged griffins are further carvings: a large flower head, a smaller griffin and acanthus leaf decoration. In all, there are six griffins on the panel. Stunning panel of fine quality and exceptional carved detail.Measures some 48.5" X 7.5". Condition is excellent and age commensurate with minor evidence of historic worm. Please see all images..
