US Civil War Model 1855 Bayonet Short Sword

Sword bayonetfor use with M1841 "Mississippi" Rifles that were rebored to .58caliber and altered to accept a sword bayonet.
The blade profile isunique. It is not a yataghan, but simply a curved blade with the hilt offset tokeep the blade point out of the bullet's path. This odd blade design was notused on any other bayonet.
According to the late Robt.Reilly, only 10, 286 bayonets of this type were produced at the Harpers FerryArmory during 1855--57.
On one side it say...s US and on the other side is a very faint, using a magnifying glass, 185 so it probably was 1855.
This short sword was in a trunk from 1945 to 2005.
