Offered for your consideration is a beautiful vintage Case XX Chromium P2032 fish cleaver. These knives were very popular and similar models were offered by several different makers. The knives from Cattaraugus and Robeson were probably the most common. It has a versatile design that's very handy for use as a compact cleaver. In addition to cleaning fish, it's also well-suited for home butchering, game processing, field dressing, and it's very handy around camp.... Case made this model in several different variations over the years. This "Chromium" version pre-dates the CAP series of knives. I've owned a dozen or so different examples of this model over the years and this is one of the nicest I've seen...especially the handle. Cheaper examples are certainly available with some searching, although a nicer examples are very few and far between.
The cleaver shows no obvious signs of use and remains in excellent condition with no problems at all. It has not been cleaned or buffed and remains original.
This is a unique vintage Case XX with a unique design. The thick, sturdy blade was ground from chromed carbon steel and has a traditional hanging hole at the front top. It retains all of its chrome finish with no wear. It's free of any corrosion or pitting with the chrome retaining a deeply mirrored, highly reflective appearance. The spine is completely free of the dings, dents, marring, and/or mushrooming so common (they were frequently used as impromptu hammers or pounding implements) to cleavers. The blade has not been sharpened and retains its original factory edge. It's free of any grinder marks or sharpening abrasions and also retains its correct bevel. The edge is free of any nicks, chips, dings, or damage and remains very nice with no use or wear. It remains sharp and the knife is ready for immediate use. The thick handle is of laminated hardwood and it has finger grooves for a firm, comfortable grip. It's definitely a premium-quality handle. The wood is completely free of any water damage or dishwasher exposure and the surfaces remain fully lustrous. The silky-smooth surfaces remain dark and rich with no bleaching, fade or dryness. The wood remains tight to the tang over the entire length with absolutely no voids, warping, or gapping. The handle is free of any cracks, chips, gouges, or damage and there are no stains or discoloration with no obvious wear. The wood is beautifully grained and the handle just has a great look all the way around.
The blade is actually 5-1/4" from the front tip to the front of the handle and the cleaver measures 9-5/8" in overall length.
This would be a great piece for the Case XX collector/enthusiast and it would be ideal for any Case display. They just don't come much nicer than this gem!
