ACUPUNCTURE: THE ANCIENT CHINESE ART OF HEALING, Felix Mann (VG, 1963 HB 1st)
Item History & Price
This is a complete overview of the history, practice, and validity of acupuncture, which goes back to ancient Chinese times. Text is enhanced by many diagrams and charts. The author was a British physician who trained at Cambridge University and Westminister Hospital. When he grew frustrated with the results of orthodox medical treatment in his own practice, he spent several years working as a doctor in other countries and studying new medical theories. While in France he witnessed the curing of an appendicitis patient by a needle-prick below the knee. He began studying acupuncture, working with practitioners in Europe and later a Vietnamese doctor. He also learned Chinese in order to read ancient texts in the original language. This is a serious book on the subject.
Per Aldous Huxley, "That a needle stuck into one's foot should improve the functioning of one's liver is obviously incredible...(but) as a matter of empirical fact, it does happen. Inserted at precisely the right point, the needle in the foot regularly affects the functioning of the liver."
