The book (Small Folio) is bound with morocco spine in five compartments with raised bands, tooled in gilt, with gilt lettering pie...ces in compartment two, and green pebble cloth covered boards with a blind stamped border; the front joint is cracked and the board held attached, seemingly, purely by the front end paper which has been glued to the lining paper at the gutter, presumably to strengthen, the rear joint is tender; spine is faded with minor scuffs and shelf wear to the top and bottom edges; boards bear light soiling and minor wear to extremities.Inside:
Faint toning to edges, heavy toning to the final two leaves; sporadic foxing, mostly minor, moderate now and then, at times the book is really quite clean, at others not so; occasional browning from offsetting; faint liquid staining to the upper margin from page 336 to page 386; pronounced liquid staining to the lower page to the rear end and lining papers.Previous owner's inscription in ink to the front end paper.Illustrated throughout in black and white.All pages are tightly held at the gutter aside from the front end papers, half title and title pages which are all straining and gapping at the gutter, the end papers and half title with tears at the gutter. Edges are gilt.
The book measures 28 cm x 19 cm and weighs 2.010kg without packaging.
