I have here for sale a 2 book set entitled LITERARY REMAINS OF THE LATE WILLIAM HAZLITT with a notice of his life by his son, and thoughts on his genius and writings by E L Bulwer and Mr Sergeant Talfourd in two volumes. Published by Saunders and Otley, London in 1836. Illustrated frontispiece portrait of Hazlitt by Thomas Bewick to Vol I. Vol I covers essays on Definition of Wit; On Means and Ends; Belief, whether voluntary?; Personal Politics; On the Writings of Hob...bes; On Liberty and Necessity; On Locke's Essay on the Human Understanding; and On Tooke's "Diversions of Purley". Vol II covers essays on Self-Love; Conduct of Life; or Advice to a School boy; Fine Arts; The Fight; The Want of Money; Feeling of Immortality in Youth; The Main-Chance; the Opera; Persons one would wish to have seen; My first Acquaintance with Poets; The Shyness of Scholars; The Vatican; the Spirit of Monarchy. Half bound in dark brown leather on blue and red marbled hardboards. 5 raised bands, gilt decals and lettering to the spines. Marbled endpapers and gilt top page edge. Boards rubbed to edges and top and bottom of spine. Pages are somewhat sunned and with some foxing bu the binding is tight. Overall in very good condition. Vol I 362pp, Vol II 468pp. 22.5 x 15 cm.Postage will be by Air Mail outside of UK. If you buy more than one item then the postage cost falls for the second and further items as I will put them in to one parcel - so you save money.
