His theory of evolution by natural selection was the single most important scientific elevation of the nineteenth century.  He established that all species of life have descended over time from common ancestors. Darwin published his theory of evolution with compelling evidence in his 1859 book "On the Origin of Species."  In 1871, he issued "The Descent of Man and Supplemental Notes on Sexual Selection in Relation to Monkeys." The iconic caricatures of Darwin with an ape or monkey body emphasized his significance in transforming ideas, and contributed to widespread identification of evolutionism with Darwinism. CHARLES ROBERT DARWIN was born in Shrewsbury, England, to a wealthy intellectual family, his grandfather being the famous physician Erasmus Darwin. At Cambridge University he formed a friendship with J. S. Henslow, a professor of botany, and that association, along with his enthusiasm for collecting beetles, led to “a burning zeal, ” as he wrote in his Autobiography, for the natural sciences. When Henslow obtained for him the post of naturalist on H.M.S. Beagle, the course of his life was fixed. The five-year-long voyage to the Southern Hemisphere between 1831 and 1836 would lay the foundation for his ideas about evolution and natural selection. Upon his return Darwin conducted his research and wrote.  In 1859, the first edition of 1250 copies was printed; first day orders from booksellers totaled 1500! And on that day, the raging controversy broke. With the publication of "Descent, " Darwin's name became a household word around the world!  I offer Combined shipping.
