Up for sale is a antique 1940 first edition "A" of "For Whom the Bell Tolls" by Ernest Hemingway and published by Charles Scribner's in hardcover. The imperfections are as follows;The spine shows some softening of the top and bottom with fading of the red wrap of the title and scuffing / discoloration. Some scuffing on the top and bottom edges. Corner tips are blunted and there is dust on the top papers edge. Front edge of paper is tanning. Signature of previous owner on endpaper in fr...ont with tanning along spine of front and back. The back endpapers are split showing the mesh of the spine with show through of glue from the back board to paper. Still solid with off-white paper that is supple.
This auction is for one of the items from the estate of the former Curator of Early Children's Books at Pierpont Morgan Library. He was an author in his own right and passed away about 10 years ago.
