Front cover features colored lettering and inlay illustration.Pages are printed on one side, with text on the verso and images on the recto, with the exception of page ...27 which is printed with text on the recto. NOTE: Appears to be missing page number 12 which should contain text with the image of the yellow umbrella & shoes on the recto.What issue is this book?...Due to the fact that the title is not in light blue coloring (matching Little Black Sambo's pants), then it appears not to be a 1st printing of this historic edition. The second issue has the title in black, with an image of Sambo printed on both the front and back covers. Tan buckram spine, which by the third printing, was changed to red. Therefore, the best guess for this edition would appear to be an early 2nd issue.Courtesy Wikipedia...Sambo is a South Indian boy. Contemporary critics observed that Bannerman presents one of the first black heroes in children's literature and regarded the book as positively portraying black characters in both the text and pictures, especially in comparison to the more negative books of that era that depicted blacks as simple and uncivilized. However, it would become an object of allegations of racism in the mid-20th century. Both text and illustrations have undergone considerable revisions since.
