Item History & Price
"Wayne Jackson, trumpet player and one-half of the legendary horn section the Memphis Horns, died Tuesday night of congestive heart failure at a Memphis hospital. Jackson’s wife Amy confirmed the trumpeter’s death to The Associated Press. He was 74.
“He was a beautiful soul who touched the world with his trumpet, ” Amy Jackson wrote of her husband on Facebook. “As we mourn his p...assing, we also celebrate his incredible musical legacy, which he leaves us with. God gave him a gift, and he used it to the fullest … He loved his family, his friends and his fans the world over.”
Born in West Memphis, Arkansas, Jackson rose to prominence while still in high school as a member of Stax Records’ famed studio band the Mar-Keys, a crew of expert musicians that included guitarist Steve Cropper, bassist Donald “Duck” Dunn, keyboardist Booker T. Jones, organist Isaac Hayes and saxophonist Andrew Love, Jackson’s future Memphis Horns partner...
...In 1969, Jackson and Love split from Stax to form their own Memphis Horns, and the duo would quickly find work adding their trademark brass sound to countless albums and singles, including Al Green’s Let’s Stay Together, Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline” and Elvis Presley’s “Suspicious Minds.”
In the ensuing decades, the Memphis Horns were recruited to record with artists like U2 (“Angel of Harlem”), Peter Gabriel (“Sledgehammer”), Neil Young and Billy Joel, and tour with acts ranging from Rod Stewart and Joe Cocker to Jimmy Buffett and the Doobie Brothers. Jackson also performed on Jack White and Alicia Keys’ Quantum of Solace theme “Another Way to Die.”
In a tally on Jackson’s website, the trumpeter claimed that he appeared on 52 Number One songs, 83 gold and platinum-selling albums, 116 Top Ten records and 15 Grammy-winning records. Jackson and Love were given Grammy Lifetime Achievement Awards for their contribution to music in 2012..."
In 2005 and then in 2006, Wayne wrote this FIRST COLLECTOR EDITION set of autobiographical works, Volumes 1 and 2 of In My Wildest Dreams. These were only offered online AND ARE NO LONGER AVAILABLE. The last two photos of this listing show a printout of Wayne's website in 2005 which identify Volume 1.
BOTH OF THESE ARE INSCRIBED TO BOB & STEVE AND SIGNED BY WAYNE JACKSON, INCLUDING HIS SIGNATURE HORN IMAGE. A few examples of Wayne Jackson's autograph can be found online - check searching "MEMPHIS HORNS AUTOGRAPHED PHOTO WAYNE JACKSON & ANDREW LOVE" on Worthpoint. IN ADDITION TO THESE COVER INSCRIPTIONS, VOLUME 1 HAS ANOTHER SIGNED NOTE, "We miss you both So Bad! Wayne & Amy" It's unclear who wrote this inscription - it could be Wayne's wife, Amy.
Starting in 2012, three books were marketed by Wayne Jackson, All titled In My Wildest Dreams, Takes 1, 2, and 3. I would surmise that these two volumes were the first incarnation of these books - I am not certain of the relationship between these first two spiral bound Wildest Dream books and the next three which are available online. I don't have copies of the "Takes.." volumes to compare the text. NO OTHER COPIES OF THESE TWO FIRST VOLUMES AVAILABLE. The 2005 printout partially shown in the listing photos is included with the two books.
Both books are in EXCELLENT CONDITION, with clean pages, solidly spiral bound with plastic front covers and black thick paper back boards. No markings other than the inscriptions shown. Volume 1 has 205 pages, Volume 2 has 204 pages. Many photos in both books.
