I have here for sale a book entitled THE DESCENT OF MAN, AND SELECTION IN RELATION TO SEX by CHARLES DARWIN Second Edition, Revised and Augmented Fifteenth Thousand, with illustrations published by John Murray, London, in 1882. Darwin's work established evolutionary descent with modification as the dominant scientific explanation of diversification in nature and in 1871 he published "The Descent of Man, and Selection in Relation to Sex" where he examines human evolution... and sexual selection. There are 77 b/w figures.Tan leather boards with a gilt emblem of the Middlesex Hospital Medical School on the front board. Five raised bands, a dark brown title block, gilt lettering and gilt decoration on the spine. Scuffing to boards and some wear to the spine. Marbled endpapers and page edges. Prize label on front endpaper. Front hinge partially cracked but all pages are firm and clean and the book is in very good internal condition. 693 pages. 19.5 x 13 cm.
