1760.Selling here is a first edition of 'Opere Inedite di Niccolo’ Machiavelli.....', the imprint is false, printed in Lucca (ESTC T91122), 1760. Text in Italian. Published from a manuscript kept in the library of the Gaddi family in Florence, contains the speech of Machiavelli on the reform of the State of Florence. the request of Pope Leo X, and 40 unpublished letters.
4to, bound in 19th century calf backed paper covered boards, spine with black morocco label gilt ruling and ornaments. Plain endpapers period with the binding.The book measures 18.5cm by 25.5cm.The contents are complete although a number of initial pages have been misprinted/bound. Meeting collation: xvi, 1, 6-7, 4-5, 2-3, 8-45, [3], 45-151, [1]pp, with a fine engraved vignette to titlepage. With a divisional titlepage ’Lettere di Niccolo Machiavelli ...’ on the first pp45 ([chi]1r) and a contents leaf conjugate with it ([chi]2).
