Rebacked with a leather spine and the original boards re...tained. Measuring approx. 27.5cm x 18cm x 6cm. Five raised bands and gilt titles to spine. Gilt decoration to front and rear board edges. As can be seen from the photos the leather is darkened, and is patchy surface worn/scuffed. Extremities scuffed and a little chipped/worn. Internally there are more recent endpapers to front and rear. The frontispiece has been trimmed and laid down to a blank. The title page is chipped and torn and has also been laid-down to a blank. A few leaves have some small patch repairs (affecting odd words which have been added in manuscript), couple slightly larger repairs. Name (Hezekiah Wood*) and some ink letters and smudges to dedication leaves, and ink annotations to last leaf. The large folding map has extensive crude repairs/reinforcements to rear and to margin (please see photos closely). Grubby (more so to title page and occasional leaves) with scattered foxing. Toning/browning (more so to title page). Lacking preliminary imprimatur leaf to Part I and two final leaves after publishers catalogue of Part II (? Index). Small burn mark to one leaf, and one leaf has large closed tear (partially repaired, see images). There are occasional ink annotations and ink smudges. Occasional marks and creases, else overall in very readable and firm condition.

Sir Richard Cox, 1st Baronet PC (1650 – 1733) was an Irish lawyer and judge. "This early history of Ireland is regarded from the standpoint of the New English; and purports to be the first chronological history of Ireland."
