A genuine and extremely rare bronze third place winner's medal (with ribbon) from the 9th FINA World Short Course (25m) Swimming Championships, held in the Manchester Arena, Manchester, from 9th to 13th April 2008. I would say that this example was in close to mint condition, with the polished background surface retaining most of its sheen but also beginning to acquire some colourful toning. Please take a good look at my photos and for...m your own opinion of its grade. The ribbon is in good condition too. The case however is damaged and incomplete - the lid has broken off and been lost.Made from Bronze, Diameter 70 mm, Thickness approx 4.5 mm, Weight (including ribbon) 141.4 grams. The obverse side has a view of some of Manchester's modern architectural landmarks, with the rising or setting sun's rays in the background. Around the periphery is the legend "9TH FINA WORLD SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS (25m) / MANCHESTER 2008". The reverse has Fina's logo in the centre and the same legend as the obverse side, though slightly abbreviated.Details of the 9th FINA World Short Course Swimming Championships, including a medals table, are available on Wikipedia. These show the USA topping the medals table with 10 golds, ahead of Australia in 2nd place with 8 golds. The host nation Great Britain won 3 gold medals but comfortably won more medals in total (24) than any other country.
