This is a stunning antique oil on canvas still life painting in a gold gilt wood frame. The subject of this rustic style painting is a large, overflowing bouquet of purple lilac or wisteria branches and blooms. The painting evokes the spontaneous energy of a fresh-picked bundle of flowers, no-fuss no-frills straight from the garden on a sweet summer's day. The flowers spill out of a round blue ceramic vase on a loosely suggested tabletop. The background of the painting is a gradient of... soft faded natural tones, with red and ochre hues curving along the left side of the frame and cooler blue-greens moving toward the right.
This painting is in good antique condition with wear consistent with age. It has some significant paint loss namely on the bottom left corner and along the left border. The painting experienced some soiling from storage over the years, and we have recently given in a light cleaning, though as visible in photos there is still some soiling/accumulation that could call for some finer cleaning if desired. There are mild stretcher marks in the canvas and there is minor fading and loss of vibrance throughout, though the antique textural and visual integrity remains intact.
The painting with-frame measures 24 inches wide and 27 1/2 inches long.
