Antique Japanese Raised Embroidery panel, Couching or Twisted Silk Stich. Meiji?This piece is by no means perfect, it's flaws are consummate with age, and do not distract from the amazing detail and workmanship of the embroidery. Some repairs or strengthen pieces were in place making me believe this was a scroll. I have placed acid free, low tack tape to stop any tearing See photo. Looking on the web I found a very near match to this piece in an American Museum, also see last... picture for the Stich in a Spanish Museum . The piece has a 3d appearance reminiscent of bullion or stumpwork. Please ask if more details required. Dispatched with Royal Mail 1st Class.
