Antique WAPAK Cast Iron SKILLET Frying Pan CLEANED 8 NICKEL PLATED Heat Ring
Item History & Price
10-5/8" Diameter (10" Diameter without spouts), 14-3/4" longwith handle, 2-1/8" HighThis is an antique cast iron skilletwith an outside heat ring and no cracks, breaks, or repairs. On the bottom, ithas "WAPAK" in the curved form and an underlined "8". Thereare mold marks and "buttering" on the bottom of the skillet, which istypical of WAPAK as they copied many of their skillets from others. There is also pitting, most likely from use ...on a coal stove that used high sulfur coal.It has been cleaned byme--thoroughly returned to raw cast iron--and is ready to display or to season and use. This is a time consuming process. No harsh methods were used on this skillet.
The nickel plating on the sides and handle is in good condition. The inside does not appear to have any peeling plating. I would consider seasoning the inside and perhaps the bottom only, because the outside walls are in such good condition given the age. It has a nice cookingsurface with only minor utensil marks and pitting that will fill with time andadditional seasoning--see high resolution pictures. It has about 6 newspaperthicknesses of rock from 7 to 2 o'clock when tested on a flat granite surface; it will not spin on a smooth top or other stove.
