PROBABLY FROM GUNTHERMANN
MADE IN GERMANY
c.1910
TINPLATE FIGURE OF AN EXERCISING BOY
measures around 7.5 inches head to toe
INTERNAL CLOCKWORK / WINDUP MECHANISM
DISPLAYS WITH REMNANTS OF HIS ORIGINAL HAND PAINTED FINISH
GRASPS HIS ORIGINAL CELLULOID TYPE BALL IN EACH HAND
HE IS CONSTRUCTED TO SWING HIS ARMS AROUND AND SWAY SIDE TO SIDE AT WAISTLINE
THE ORIGINAL FIXED-KEY WINDER IS STILL EVIDENT
...INCREDIBLY CHARMING EARLY FIGURE....JUST ABOUT BALANCES UPRIGHT
HE IS OFFERED HERE AS A RESTORATION PROJECT....FOR PARTS OR SIMPLY ENJOY AS HE IS
AFTER SOME 100 PLUS YEARS HE SHOWS AREAS OF WORN/FLAKED FINISH (very common to these early hand painted pieces)......shows some metal misshape...one of his exercise balls has cracks damage...his left shoulder joint wants fresh solder to secure his arm in place (he will carefully pose as is, but it's an easy repair job).the mechanism has not been checkedthe key head is slipping on its shaft, so i've not been able to test winding.....with such an old piece, i'd rather not attempt to force anything...SO BEST ASSUME IT'S NOT WORKING.i did manually move his right arm, whilst holding him aloft......as the arm passes its highest position, the legs move slightly/sway at the hips.
AS SHOWN IN THE IMAGES.....HE STILL MAKES A DELIGHTFUL STANDING FIGURE.....IN ORIGINAL STATE.
