Original Description:
Small late 19th century sampler by Harriet Jones aged 14 - 1880. Worked in red wool on soft gauze, this little sampler is completely charming with neat stitch work throughout. The upper and middle sections of the linen are stitched with rows of alphabet letters, numbers and border patterns, whilst the lower section contains Harriet's details and the date of August 1880. The gauze has overall discolouration consistent with its age and the red of the thread is good with some small a...reas of stitch loss to the outer line border and the odd stitch elsewhere. The last photo is of the reverse of the sampler and indicates how the colours would have looked when Harriet first stitched it. Measures 7 1/2" x 10"
