This is a really fine quality, late Victorian Sterling silver, engine turned silver snuff box or pill box.
The box is engine turned all over with a very crisp geometric design. There is an ornate monogram engraved to the cartouche on the lid.
The interior is brightly gilded, if a little faded. The hallmark shows the assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter p for 1889, and the maker's mark GU for George Unite who was registered at Caroline Street in Birmingham in 1832, ...and is one of the most sought after of Victorian silversmiths.
Superb antique condition, with no signs of damage. The engine turned exterior is practically untouched, almost mint. The hallmarks are clear.
The box weighs 17 g and is 35 mm x 24 mm and 8 mm high.
All in all, a superb and fine quality piece of Victorian silver.
